This is a 3-head, single-capstan cassette deck released by TEAC around 1980. The original price was ¥119,000, and it was a high-end model incorporating a tape speed system and Dolby HX system. It uses solenoids for the up and down movement of the heads, etc., resulting in a simple and highly reliable structure with a unique operating sound. This unit was obtained as a junk item and has been repaired and maintained, and is currently operating normally. The mechanical section has been serviced with the following: capstan belt replacement, pinch roller and idler rubber cleaning, greasing of each sliding part, cleaning of the record/playback head, speed adjustment (standard/double speed), and azimuth adjustment. Because the playback sound was sluggish immediately after power-on, all electrolytic capacitors on the power supply board were replaced with audio-grade capacitors, and four transistors attached to the heat sink were replaced. Since the recording on the right channel was not normal, the BIAS adjustment variable resistor (normal), op-amp, and the frequently failing orange capacitors (polypropylene) were replaced and adjusted. However, since I do not have a TEAC test tape, I adjusted it by recording and playing back test signals from other equipment, and finally fine-tuned it by ear. The adjustment is not based on the service manual. For the exterior, the missing eject button and side covers have been fabricated from aluminum and installed. The side covers have been painted with a matte black finish, but the hole positions were corrected, resulting in a less-than-perfect finish. In addition, the top panel and front panel have been cleaned and touched up. While it is currently operating normally and can record and play back due to the repairs, please understand that this is a product that is about 40 years old, and it is sold as-is, with no returns. If you are interested in an old TEAC cassette deck, please consider purchasing it with the understanding that it is an item from a bygone era.
