This is a rare antique artwork made of pure silver. The inscription on the front of the box reads: "[Longevity] Commemorating the Receipt of the Prize Cup Iwamoto Fusakichi Store" The back reads: "Pure Silver, Oval Toothpick Holder" It is a silver toothpick holder with a vine handle. The vine appears to be like catnip (matatabi), and the design is a pun on "a cat with a gold coin" and "a cat with catnip." "Matatabi" refers to a vine plant belonging to the genus Actinidia, of the family Actinidiaceae. It was named after the legend that travelers were able to "continue their journey" ("mata tabi") after eating the fruit of the matatabi. Also, since gold coins were given as a farewell gift to those departing on a journey, it is thought that this item was made as a celebratory gift for a departure. Although the paulownia box has some damage, having the box makes it quite rare as both a work of art and a historical artifact.
