I purchased this Sumikiri three-tiered food box (unused) for use in the tea ceremony. Made with high-quality Akita cedar, this food box features a natural wood finish that maximizes the beauty of the wood grain. Even after many years since its purchase, I am surprised that I can still smell the clean, refreshing scent of the cedar. The neat form of the Sumikiri adds quiet dignity to a Japanese-style space without being overly assertive. I believe it received a Good Design Award sometime in the 1980s. Although it is a three-tiered box, it has a nested structure, allowing it to be stored compactly (the height of one tier) when not in use, making it space-saving and practical.
