He grew up surrounded by the philosophy of Mingei (folk art) as the second son of Tetsuzo Ota, a potter of Koishiwara ware. Inspired by Shinzo Kotani of Kurashiki Glass, he pursued a career in glass art. He is now independent and, like Kotani, uses the glassblowing technique to create handmade taru cups, small bowls, flower vases, etc., using materials such as glass sashes and one-sho (1.8 liter) bottles.
