A pair of lacquerware soup bowls from Tsugaru, a traditional craft of Aomori Prefecture. I received these from my father's craftsman friend, but I've been displaying them because I haven't wanted to use them. My grandfather and father were lacquerware artisans of Tsugaru-nuri. Recently, the number of artisans who arrange traditional patterns and challenge modern designs has been increasing. This is a pattern made using a special spatula with holes to create the unique Tsugaru-nuri pattern. There are slight irregularities, so it fits comfortably in the hand and is easy to hold.
