This is a bowl from the Ding kiln of the Northern Song Dynasty, approximately 1000 years old. The size is 15 cm in diameter and 6 cm in height. It is commonly known as "Black Ding." While black monochrome pieces are rare in themselves, this one is even more special. The temperature inside the kiln was slightly higher, causing the black color at the bottom to vaporize and spread across the surface of the bowl, creating countless layers. The original white clay of the Ding kiln appears as a white circle, and the surrounding area has undergone kiln transformation, resembling the sun emerging from clouds or stars in the cosmos shrouded in gas. The underside is a pitch-black, lacquer-like darkness. Originally, the surface was also this color, creating a wonderful contrast between the front and back, between movement and stillness. The white foot of the bowl further accentuates the black, increasing the rarity of this piece. A few years ago, a slightly larger piece from the same kiln, the "Linyushanren," was auctioned overseas for a surprising price, but personally, I find this one even more mysterious and appealing. Thank you.
