This is a kimono made from Honba Ushikubi Tsumugi, designated as an Intangible Cultural Property of Ishikawa Prefecture and one of the three major tsumugi fabrics in Japan. This particular piece is a pre-dyed Ushikubi Tsumugi. Ushikubi Tsumugi (Ushikubi Tsumugi) produced in Shiramine Village, Ishikawa Prefecture, is a fabric with very limited production, even among the three major tsumugi fabrics of Japan, alongside Oshima Tsumugi and Yuki Tsumugi. There are two methods of dyeing Ushikubi Tsumugi: pre-dyeing and post-dyeing. This is a pre-dyed kimono, which is less common and is commonly called "Ori-Ushi" (woven Ushikubi). The unique knots of the tama-mayu (double cocoon) and the soft yarn containing a lot of air create a piece that is both rustic and possesses luster and delicate details. The characteristic knot feeling is preserved, and fine stripes of blue and brown patterns are woven into the fabric. The attached certificate of authenticity shown in the photos will also be included. While items with patterns expressed through "post-dyeing" make up the majority of the market, and are often seen, "pre-dyed" items are less common.
