Born in Port Arthur, Texas in 1925. He served in the Navy from 1942 to 1945 during World War II. After the war, he studied painting at the Kansas City Art Institute from 1947 to early 1948. Around 1955, he began to exhibit a series of works called "Combine Paintings." Rauschenberg stated that his goal was "not to make art, but to bridge the gap between art and life." His typical "Combine Paintings" feature canvases painted with the intense brushstrokes of Abstract Expressionism, with images of President Kennedy, the Apollo spacecraft, or real objects like traffic signs and old tires attached to the surface, often giving the impression that the work extends beyond the two-dimensional frame. ■ Printing Method This poster is an offset print.
