Seigaiha is read as "seigaiha," and the pattern is said to have originated in ancient Persia.
It was transmitted to Japan via the Silk Road during the Asuka period. In the Tale of Genji, written in the Heian period, there is a depiction of the young Hikaru Genji dancing the gagaku piece "Seigaiha."
The pattern on the dancer's costume was Seigaiha, and the name Seigaiha is said to be derived from this gagaku piece.
