This is a single-layered "hand-painted Yuzen" silk visiting kimono, ready to arrange the naturally colored ivy and pampas grass swaying amicably in the wind. (*^^*) Yuzen dyeing, said to have been founded by the Kyoto fan painter Yuzensai Miyazaki in the Genroku era, is characterized by its rich colors and gorgeous patterns. Yuzen devised a method using rice flour, bran, and salt mixed into ito-me-nori (a paste used to prevent colors from bleeding), which prevented adjacent colors from mixing. This technique allowed for the expression of intricate patterns like paintings. Those dyed by "hand-painting" are also called Hon-Yuzen (true Yuzen). With the basting thread still attached to the sleeves, "no stains or dirt," this is a "never-worn" piece, only worn once for photography♪ The material is "pure silk," which has a luxurious feel and is gentle on the skin. It drapes well and is easy to move in, with "hand-sewn tailoring." It's a piece you'll want to pass down through generations and cherish for a long time... and it's easy to have it remade, which is another advantage. The "single-layered" kimono, worn between mid-May and the end of June, and in September, with the summer season in between, is attractive for its light and airy feel without lining. It's perfect as an intermediate garment when it's too hot for a lined kimono but the season doesn't suit a thin summer garment... or as a lifesaver when you're unsure what to wear due to unpredictable temperature changes!
