Kyo-Beni (Kyoto Rouge) Murasaki Shikibu Design, Made by Suzuki Ryukodo Suzuki Ryukodo is one of the long-established manufacturers and sellers of traditional cosmetics and crafts in Kyoto. They are particularly famous for their lipstick called "Kyo-Beni," known for being used by Maiko (apprentice geisha) and Geisha. Kyo-Beni is made by applying rouge to the inside of a clam shell. When used, the rouge is taken out with an included brush or finger and applied to the lips. After use, it can also be used as a beautiful craft item, such as a small container or ornament.
