It was introduced to Japan during the Asuka period. It can be seen on the pedestal of the Yakushi Nyorai statue in the Golden Hall of Yakushiji Temple, a national treasure, and is also woven into silk fabrics and brocades. ◆ Unlike regular "fukusa" (tea ceremony silk cloths) which are plain, "dashifukusa" are made from famous textiles like those from Ryumura Textile. ◆ Since only the host uses it, those who own one are likely practicing tea ceremony.
