The handle is forged from 5.5mm diameter round steel. Using a technique comparable to traditional crafts, I take a single iron plate, anneal it (make it soft), and then relentlessly hammer it into shape. "Annealing" involves heating the steel to around 750-800 degrees Celsius and then slowly cooling it over about 6 hours in ashes. This changes the crystal structure of the iron, making it less likely to crack when hammered. Therefore, the actual hammering is done the next day. During hammering, the phenomenon of "work hardening" occurs, making the metal harder, so the process of heating and annealing is repeated. To create this single piece, I repeat the annealing and hammering process 8 times. The oil-tempered finish allows you to use it immediately. You can wash it with a neutral detergent, but please maintain it periodically with seasoning, etc. As it is made of iron, rust may appear, but red rust will become less noticeable when heated by fire, as the oxidized iron is reduced.
