This indigo dyeing is designated as a traditional craft of Mie Prefecture. These are items from a workshop that stubbornly uses traditional methods of dyeing and weaving. The characteristic of genuine indigo-dyed cotton is that the color becomes more beautiful with each wash. This is a raw fabric. Please wash it to remove the starch before tailoring. It seems that a little starch is applied to the threads when weaving in the workshop, as it helps with the weaving process. It also improves the texture. How about using it for a single-layered kimono? When washing, please do not wash it with other items. (Even after the color has stabilized, if the indigo color transfers to other items, it should come out with washing.) It will shrink somewhat when washed, but the fabric is woven larger in both width and length to account for this. Indigo dyeing requires a lot of time and effort. Drying is also done in the sun.
