This is a replica sanshin (Okinawan three-stringed instrument) of the Edo Yonashiro type from the Ryukyu Kingdom era, made by Zenshin Hokama, one of the leading sanshin craftsmen representing the Showa, Heisei, and Reiwa eras, and a designated prefectural cultural asset. This sanshin is the same type as the "Edo Yona by Zenshin Hokama" exhibited by Mr. Hokama at the "1st Okinawa Prefecture Shamisen Production Association Skills Exhibition," which is featured on page 48 of the "Okinawa's Treasured Sanshin Exhibition." In Heisei 20, the former chairman of the Nomura-ryu Classical Music Association directly commissioned the creation of this sanshin, providing the four-piece black wood material. This is truly a meticulous and refined replica sanshin, a masterpiece by Mr. Hokama. The neck is made of the highest-grade four-piece black wood, now difficult to obtain, with no white wood and a completely black appearance. The sharp, edged neck is finished with genuine lacquer and gold leaf inside the string storage, weighing 525g. There is one small dent on the Nomaru and a scratch on the lacquer, but otherwise, it is in very good condition for its age. The Tougen chiga (body) is covered with large-grained genuine leather on both sides. It will be shipped in a nearly new hard case. Thank you.
