His pen name was Takashi Tsujii. He held a doctorate in economics (Chuo University, 1996). He was a member of the Japan Art Academy, chairman of the Saison Cultural Foundation, vice-chairman of the Japan Writers' Association, director of the Japan PEN Club, a member of the literary journal "Rekitei," co-representative of the Constitution Regeneration Forum, and chairman of the Japan-China Cultural Exchange Association. He served as a director of Seibu Railway, an outside director of Keikyu Corporation, and the representative of the Seibu Ryutsu Group (later the Saison Group). His half-brother was Yoshiaki Tsutsumi, the former owner of the Seibu Railway Group.
