They also seem to reduce the weight a little, and my child no longer dislikes their backpack. My child's school prohibits keychains, so it seems to be a good way to identify their own backpack. (This is a public elementary school. I also received permission to use the shoulder pads.) A cushion mat, as shown in the fourth photo, is placed between the 100% cotton fabric and the quilted fabric. After much trial and error, I created a clean design without using fasteners.
