He broke away from the central calligraphy world and was based in his hometown of Tosu City, Saga Prefecture, where he devoted himself to contributing to local culture. He is known as an artist who pursued the purity of art, with a posthumous exhibition held to commemorate the 100th anniversary of his birth. According to the website of Zenshodo Kaitori-sha, he is classified as a calligrapher. On a personal note, Bokuzan-san has passed away, but he was actually my father's great-uncle. My parents' home is filled with Bokuzan-san's works, from shikishi (square cardboard for calligraphy) to large hanging scrolls. This calligraphy was written by the teacher shortly before he passed away, when my father went to Tosu in Kyushu to have it done.
