It appears to be unused. Everything is boxed and in good condition. This is a set of toso-ki, used in traditional Japanese New Year celebrations. Toso is a medicinal liquor (otoso) drunk on New Year's Day to ward off evil spirits and pray for longevity. The set consists of a choshi (sake pourer), a three-tiered sake cup (sakazuki), a cup stand (haidai), and a tray (chobon). The image shows a design with reddish-lacquer and gold maki-e (sprinkled picture) of cherry blossoms (or related flowers). In the formal manner, one drinks three times, one cup at a time, from the three-tiered sake cups.
