The hardness is selected and used from 13 to 18 (slightly hard to slightly soft) on the Reeds'n Stuff hardness gauge. To minimize changes after finishing, the reed is made over a period of about two months from assembly to finishing. During finishing, the reed is scraped to ensure that the "p" (piano) articulation responds without problems, that the balance is good from low to high notes, and that a wide range from "p" to "f" (forte) can be played.
