It has good toughness (doesn't chip), cuts well, and the blade lasts a long time. With the intention of shaving katsuobushi, the Yasugi steel was hardened, tempered, and polished to create a plane blade specifically for shaving katsuobushi. 2. The plane base is white oak. Made from white oak that has been naturally dried for a year and a half, it is not affected by changes in the outside air (humidity, temperature), resulting in a stable (doesn't warp) base. The base is made as large as possible to make it easier to apply force when shaving. This is the same specification as the katsuobushi shaver we have traditionally handled. 3. The outer box is made of Sakhalin tamo wood, and the surface is finished with fuki-urushi (wiped lacquer).
