It was rebuilt as part of the commemorative project for the centennial celebration in 2020. The "Disaster Prevention and Good Fortune Amulet" was made using the wood (Taiwan cypress with a lifespan of 1300 years) from the old South Approach Torii gate, which had completed its long role, to pray for the removal of all disasters and the bringing in of good fortune. The first Torii gate near Harajuku station, representing the boundary between the secular area and the sacred area, welcomed countless visitors for 100 years since Meiji Jingu was established in 1920. Recently, the Torii gate was rebuilt in commemoration of Meiji Jingu’s centennial celebration in 2020. The wood from the former torii gate that had been standing for 100 years is now reused to make amulets to ward off calamities and bring in good fortune.
