Ultra-fine carving of Indian Old Mountain Sandalwood Miniature "National Treasure Shoson Butsuro" [Item No.: BU007] Unused This is a Shoson Butsuro (a small Buddhist shrine) carved from Indian Old Mountain Sandalwood with a Kannon-style opening. It is a work from about thirty years ago. It has been put up for sale to clear out inventory. Because it is high-quality sandalwood, a very pleasant sandalwood fragrance wafts out when opened. This is a miniature reproduction of the National Treasure Shoson Butsuro that Kobo Daishi brought back to Japan from China during the Tang Dynasty. The three statues are of Shaka Nyorai (Shakyamuni Buddha), Kannon Bosatsu (Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva), and Miroku Bosatsu (Maitreya Bodhisattva). Ten great disciples and two wrestlers stand on either side of Shaka Nyorai. Six disciples each also stand on either side of Kannon Bosatsu and Miroku Bosatsu. Servants, musicians, dancers, lions, and Komainu (guardian lion-dogs) are also finely carved below. No box. Height: 9.4cm Diameter: 4.4cm Weight: Approximately 102g
