Kasugayama Castle is deeply connected to Goto Matabei, who served Kuroda Kanbei. It is known as the site of "Kasugayama Castle," the residence of the Banshu Goto clan, and the remains of food storage facilities can be found at the castle site and on the mountaintop. Goto Saburozaemon-no-jo Motoaki, a subordinate of the Harima guardian Akamatsu clan, was the first lord of the castle, ruling over the entire present-day town of Fukusaki and parts of Himeji City and Kasai City. During the Onin War, he fought as a subordinate of Akamatsu Masanori, defeating the Yamana forces and achieving military success.
