CONTAX Carl Zeiss Planar 50mm F1.4 AEJ Old Lens This is a Yashica/Contax mount. It can be easily adapted to αE mount and other mirrorless cameras. Released in 1975. This lens is known as the emperor of standard lenses. It is bright, has high resolution, smooth and soft bokeh, and rich colors, but it has few of the quirks often found in old lenses, and I feel it produces exemplary images. This model is the AEJ, the early version, manufactured by Tomioka Optical, a prestigious Japanese company. It is a model where you can enjoy the "shuriken bokeh" effect, where the out-of-focus highlights take on a shuriken (throwing star) shape when the aperture is stopped down slightly. This lens is from the very early production run, with a serial number in the 58- range. There is an urban legend that some of these lenses have very good image quality, and they are priced highly at specialty stores, but I personally believe that the condition is the most important factor. Furthermore, some lenses have the country of origin engraved in black letters instead of white, and these are prized as black-engraved models. I have prepared some sample images taken with this lens. It feels like it's been a while since I've tested a 70s lens, as I've been shooting with pre-war and post-war lenses... It delivers detailed images and rich colors that feel like a different era. In particular, this lens has a large bokeh effect at F1.4, and can completely melt the background even at 50mm in close-up shots. Since I'm from the SLR generation, I can also do close-up shots at 45cm, so I have no problem with table photography. The black-engraved model has been disassembled and serviced optically, but there is some coating damage on the middle element. The rear element also has damage that looks like a slight haze, although it's not noticeable in normal light. The aperture blades produce sunstars when stopped down, so the image quality is not bad, but this is a point deduction. The exterior has no noticeable dents, but there are scratches. The operation has been adjusted to be smooth. Furthermore, although there are scratches, the original hood is included. This is an offering at an affordable price for those who want to try the black-engraved model, so please consider it. Condition: 58- serial number ~ black engraving, working condition Exterior: No noticeable dents, with scratches Optics: Coating damage on the middle element, slight haze on the rear element Operation: Tested with α7 Accessories: Front and rear caps, original hood Stored in a dehumidified cabinet 3127 *The evaluation is subjective.
