Thank you for viewing. Godai Ito Akasui (real name: Kamaichi) is the representative of the Akasui Kiln, a Muneyakiyaki kiln, and is a Living National Treasure. Muneyakiyaki is made by firing red clay, which contains a large amount of iron oxide, at high temperatures. The works are usually the color of red clay, but Godai Akasui perfected the "Yohen" technique, which changes the color to black, and the "Neriage" technique, which layers different colored clays to create patterns on the cross-section. His achievements and techniques were highly praised, and he was designated as an Important Intangible Cultural Property "Muneyakiyaki" in 2003.
