This is a shakuhachi made by Kengyo Dodo, a player and composer of the Kinko school of shakuhachi and the founder of the Nihon Chikudo Gakkan. Judging by the wear on the finger holes and the amber discoloration, it is presumed to be an old shakuhachi that has been played extensively. It is tuned in a traditional shakuhachi style and would be suitable for sankyoku ensemble or classical pieces. The tone is soft in both the otsu and kan sounds, and one can feel a warm resonance, like a gentle flow through a bamboo grove. Among the many shakuhachi bearing the Kengyo Dodo mark, this one is thought to be a high-ranking instrument, judging from the construction of the mouthpiece and the joint.
