This is genuine Yuki-Tsumugi silk fabric, woven with both warp and weft threads of hand-spun silk. It features an 80-mon (unit of measurement for the fineness of the weave) tortoise-shell pattern. It is a vintage item. The starch has been removed, and it shows signs of wear. Yuki-Tsumugi that has just been tailored is crisp. With repeated wear, the starch settles, and the hand-spun silk threads adhere to each other, softening the weave. The initial excess fluff and starch are removed, transforming the fabric into the feel of a soft, flowing kimono. This kimono has that kind of Yuki-Tsumugi feel. It has a relaxed and soft texture. I think it would be difficult to achieve this level of softness on my own. There are small spots on the lining and the *hakkake* (the lining of the skirt).
