Kabazaiku is a woodcraft made in Kakunodate, Senboku City, Akita Prefecture. "Kaba" refers to the bark of the wild cherry tree. Woodcraft using wild cherry bark is only passed down in Akita Prefecture within Japan, and it is a valuable craft considered one of Japan's representative crafts. The characteristics of Kabazaiku are its excellent moisture resistance, dryness resistance, and durability. Utilizing the unique luster and subdued color of the wild cherry bark, and the simple beauty of the bark's patterns, it is used to create a wide range of items, including tea utensils such as tea caddies and tea trays, storage boxes, vases, and modern accessories such as hair accessories and straps, and is also popular as a souvenir.
