This is a clay doll of a princess from Kani, Kani District, Gifu Prefecture. It is said to have been created in the early Meiji era, after learning the production techniques from a potter in Inuyama, Aichi Prefecture. Unfortunately, it was discontinued after the death of the last successor, Kazuo Watanabe, in 1981. Both the child and the dog have gentle faces, making it a heartwarming piece. -- It still looks quite beautiful at first glance, but as it is an old piece, it is being sold with some scratches and stains.
