Nakamichi 680ZX Nakamichi cassette deck, it works, but it's a junk item. I am selling it to organize my personal collection of equipment. This is a high-end Nakamichi model from around 1980. Before listing, I checked the basic functions with a normal tape, and I didn't feel any major problems. Recording, playback, FF, REW, and the RAMM head search function all work without problems. The AAA automatic azimuth adjustment function of the recording head also worked. There are no burnt-out lamps. The 680ZX is equipped with the same meters as the top-of-the-line 1000ZXL. It has a 50-segment, highly detailed level meter. It's similar to the successor 682, but the functions are completely different. I think it's highly accurate and excellent. The heads, from visual inspection and touch, don't seem worn, but I think there is some deterioration due to age (see photos). Before listing, I checked the sound output with a commercially available music tape, and although I don't think it's performing at its original, new condition, I thought it sounded like Nakamichi. I checked the recording with an old normal tape, and I didn't feel a big difference between Tape and source (subjectively). I don't have the specialized equipment to adjust the playback head azimuth, so I adjusted it by ear while playing music tapes from record companies. The recording head azimuth is adjusted with the auto function (AAA). There may be some misalignment, but if you are concerned, having a professional calibrate and maintain it may result in even better sound balance. The exterior shows signs of age, such as rust, small scratches, dirt, and paint damage, but there is no noticeable damage, and overall, it's in good condition. (See photos) Currently, there are no major operational problems, but it is a very old product, so there is a possibility that it may break down soon. I hope you will consider purchasing it on the premise of regular adjustments, maintenance, and parts replacement. This is the reason for it being a junk item. I would be grateful if you understand.
