1920s, pre-war Japanese cufflinks. The design incorporates the Art Deco style that was popular at the time. The shape, with its rows of mountain-cut bars, resembles an automobile's engine grille, but the reason for this unique form is that it incorporated the "streamline" design derived from aerodynamics in the designs of aircraft and automobiles at the time. The innovative streamline design is well reflected in the design. The streamline design appears not only on the face but also on the fastener on the back, creating a beautiful overall form. The material is brass with silver plating, and although some of the plating has peeled off, it is in a condition that does not pose any particular problem for use. The Japanese elite of the 1920s, influenced by the Art Deco style that was in vogue at the time, favored sophisticated attire.
