DC series left-handed models were only available by special order at the time, making this a rare guitar, likely one of only a few in the world. This guitar is also known for being used by Steve Bartek, the guitarist of the US new wave band Oingo Boingo, who played a 1982 DC150 (Photo 15). This guitar's body, neck, and fretboard are all made of "Eastern Hard Rock Maple." Hard Rock Maple refers to carefully selected, hard maple wood. Maple harvested near Kalamazoo, Michigan, where Gibson was based in the 1950s, is known as Eastern Maple. It grows in cold regions, resulting in tightly packed, harder wood. It is a valuable wood used in vintage Les Pauls and reissue models that replicate the era, among other high-end guitars. Birdseye maple is used for the fretboard.
