The one on the left, with its mouth closed, is the ♀ female. The one on the right, with its mouth open, is the ♂ male. What is a "Shisa"? It is a legendary guardian beast statue seen in Okinawa Prefecture and other places, believed to ward off evil. The male, with its mouth open, is said to bite and drive away evil spirits ("Majimun"), while the female, with its mouth closed, is said to keep happiness from escaping. How about using them as interior accessories or incense holders? Made using Yako Oven Clay: Koutou (Red Clay): Red parts (body) MILK: White parts (eyes & fangs) The pieces were shaped and then bisque-fired in an oven. The eyes are colored with acrylic paint. A waterproof coating has been applied. There is a hole in the back, at the waist, so you can insert incense sticks. When using incense, please use a dish for safety. * Incense and dishes are not included. I make them carefully, but as they are handmade by an amateur, there may be small cracks, scratches, and uneven coloring. Also, the colors may look slightly different from the photos.
