Pattern/Design...Other Bamboo Zafu and Kikko Bamboo Specialist, Bamboo Cane Crafts, Takeho Kobo. I am Takeshita, representing Hiroshima. These are bamboo cane crafts made in my workshop over about a year, using natural Hotei bamboo and Kikko bamboo. The rare Hotei bamboo and Kikko bamboo are characterized by their shorter-than-usual nodes, a variation of Madake bamboo. Hotei bamboo is named after the bulging belly of Hotei, one of the Seven Lucky Gods. Kikko bamboo is named for its resemblance to the tortoise shell pattern (Kikko). The process involves harvesting natural Hotei bamboo and Kikko bamboo, followed by washing (removing dirt) and natural drying for about two months. Then, a roasting process is applied, which creates a burnt pattern. During roasting, oil emerges from the surface of the skin, which is lightly wiped off, leaving a little behind. After the roasted bamboo cools, it is regularly polished with rice bran to give it a shine, a process that takes about a year. During this time, the moisture evaporates during natural drying, making it much lighter than at the beginning. Roasting creates the burnt pattern and prevents cracking. The roasting patterns are all different and are original to our workshop. (Please note that as shown in the photos, some have cracked naturally during drying, so they are being sold at a reduced price.) The non-slip rubber at the bottom of the cane is not included, so please attach it yourself. Length: Short canes are about 120cm Long canes are about 123cm They are sold as a set of two. We have dozens more, so please feel free to contact me. By the way, the selling price at our workshop is 14,000 yen to 18,000 yen per cane, but we are selling these as inventory clearance items. We only sell items that have completely dried out. To preserve the natural texture, the original patterns and any stains that cannot be removed are left as part of the roasting pattern, so please understand this before purchasing.
