Kenrei Oga (1819 (Bunsei 2) - 1906 (Meiji 39)) was a Confucian scholar from Higashiohkane Village, Asake District, Ise Province. Chronology The "Oga Asahikawa Monument" can be seen in the Kyozuka Park at the top of Ohkane-zaka in Shimono district, Yokkaichi City, Mie Prefecture. The Asahikawa Monument was erected by his disciples to commemorate Kenrei's 80th birthday and is treasured as a cultural heritage of the Shimono district of Yokkaichi City. Kenrei Oga, who was from the Shimono district, studied Confucianism and Buddhism from his childhood. Recognized for his scholarly talent, he was born in Joen-ji Temple and excelled in Confucianism and Buddhism from an early age. He entered the Kangien, a private school of Tansou Hirose in Hita, Bungo Province, Kyushu, and further aspired to become a scholar. Kangien was a school where scholars such as Choei Takano and Masujiro Omura studied. At the age of 28, he returned to Ise Province, became a chief priest, resigned to nurture the next generation, and opened the Confucian school Teiei Hangakusha. Later, he studied in Edo and became famous as a Chinese scholar.
