It has pockets on both sides and the front, and a large pocket on the inside against the back, providing excellent storage. The lid opens wide when you unzip it, making it easy to put things in and take them out, and it's very easy for young children to handle. I think it's a good size for kindergarten to lower elementary school. It was used for outings, so there are some minor stains here and there. There are traces of where an iron-on name tag was removed, but it's not particularly noticeable.
