This is a mid-Edo period sometsuke (blue and white) sake bottle with a takokusa (octopus arabesque) and plum blossom design. This bottle, painted with a well-executed brushstroke in a subdued, blackened gosu (cobalt blue pigment) characteristic of the mid-Edo period, has a good gosu firing. It sits well and could be used as interior decoration or a vase for a single flower. While it has age, it is in excellent condition with no damage.
