It's a luxurious item, typical of gifts from the bubble era, with lavish materials and craftsmanship. It's made entirely of solid wood, primarily Japanese ash (tamo). The direction and color of the wood grain are carefully selected and used, creating complex shades. Surprisingly, the ring passes through the stem's hole with almost no gap, making it difficult to imagine how this was made as a product. It has a step-type movement, but the sound is barely noticeable.
