This design can be worn by both boys and girls. The front buttons are dummy buttons, and it is put on and taken off with snap buttons at the back. I wanted to dress my younger child in formal wear for my older child's Shichi-Go-San, entrance ceremony, and graduation ceremony, so I put this on as an inner layer for a dress, instead of a blouse. It has been worn a few times, so there are no noticeable stains, but there are wrinkles and slight wear.
