The strap cord and the fabric under the bead decoration seem to be dyed with a natural dye like persimmon tannin. After a little research, it seems there are folk crafts in the Maule region of Chile, South America, that use horse tail hair (crin) and bead decorations, but I couldn't find any details. It was stored in a relative's storage room and had a lot of dust and dirt on it. I wiped it lightly, but please forgive any long-term storage stains.
