I unpicked a Meisen kimono and made a long skirt. The original kimono still had the basting threads attached and showed no signs of wear, but the white areas were slightly discolored. (Photos 14-17) I did a test wash on a scrap of the fabric, and the red dye bled significantly, so I did not wash the skirt. I only disinfected it with a hot iron. The flashy patterned kimono became a unique skirt. Upon closer inspection, it's a landscape painting with mountains, pine trees, and a five-story pagoda, which is very interesting. The fabric has a sheen, and the firmness characteristic of Meisen is lovely. I put in three long tucks in the front and back to reduce the volume. Although there's plenty of gathering, the tucks make the waist and hips look neat. Silk fabric is expensive, so I probably wouldn't be able to make this by buying fabric. Unpicking old clothes is difficult, but it's wonderful to be able to enjoy the feel of silk in everyday life. It's also a good point that you can enjoy the colors and combinations unique to Japan. I enjoy sewing with straight stitches only. I use old kimonos, obi sashes, and furoshiki cloths made of tsumugi, Meisen, komon, etc., for remaking. Please consider this if you understand that there may be remaining threads, small holes, stains from used items, distortions, double stitching, etc. ✳︎Please avoid washing as much as possible, and after wearing, hang it on a hanger to let it breathe. ✳︎Everything except the skirt is for photography purposes. ✳︎There is no lining. Please use a petticoat when wearing. Material: Believed to be silk Size Skirt length: Approximately 80cm Waist Assuming a free size, I've inserted 2cm wide elastic.
