This is a tray from the Aizu-nuri "Koki Series Mokume." It is made of natural wood (Japanese zelkova). It is sometimes sold as an unused item. Aizu-nuri, along with Yamanaka-nuri and Wajima-nuri, is one of the three major lacquerware traditions in Japan. Lacquerware is a traditional Japanese craft known as "Japan" in English.
