This is a tribal rug with a mihrab design, inspired by an Islamic prayer hall, made by the Taimani people. The Taimani are one of the Chahar Aimak tribes (four nomadic tribes) who live mainly in western Afghanistan, and are a mountain people who engage in agriculture and animal husbandry. The dense, Kilim-like texture of the wool has a rough feel, which seems to suit the Japanese climate where people live barefoot. ✅ It has been cleaned by a local professional cleaning company and is clean after being washed three times with soap and detergent.
