This item is new and unused. The design and colors are as shown in the photos. The fabric is similar to thin tatami mats. There are no scratches or stains. The placemats have a smell. It's the scent of newly made tatami mats. If you are sensitive to smells, you may want to reconsider. If you decide to use them, it might be a good idea to air them out in the sun.
