It uses domestic black tenpo (horse hair). It has a firmer feel than red tenpo and uses weasel hair for the upper hair, resulting in a smooth writing experience. I purchased it two years ago and used it only once in a calligraphy class. The retail price at the time was 4,950 yen. Since then, I haven't had any calligraphy classes and it's been stored in a drawer, so I'm putting it up for sale.
