Thank you for viewing. This is a rare, though somewhat irregular, sho made of highly valuable, aged soot-covered bamboo. The total length is a slightly shorter 422mm, making it an easy-to-handle instrument, significantly reducing the risk of bumping the tip. It's a thick sho, so it may be difficult for those with small hands. Each bamboo piece is very thick and sturdy, with prominent nodes. However, due to this thickness, the sides of the bamboo had to be excessively thinned, and as a result, the bamboo has been reinforced with lacquer in various places. The character "七" (seven) is inscribed on the side of all the bamboo pieces; it's unclear if this is a serial number. The mirror appears to be made of water buffalo horn, suggesting it's an old instrument. The head has no noticeable cracks or peeling of the lacquer, and is relatively clean for an old instrument. There is a slight dent on the beautiful bamboo, two nodes above (see the last photo, 20th). The sound is difficult to describe, but since both the instrument and the reeds are old, if a modern sho is digital, then this is perhaps analog, with a well-seasoned feel. There is no noticeable air leakage. Work Performed (November 2025) ○ Basic cleaning and tuning, cleaning ○ Lacquer reinforcement on the sides of ten, one, 工, 凢, 比 bamboo pieces ○ Replacement of thousand reeds (due to being too light) ○ Bamboo trimming near the finger holes of the lower bamboo (to prevent accidental touching when pressing 乙) ○ Trimming of the lower part of the 行 finger hole ○ Adjustment of the boat bottom and boat surface in several places (due to being too shallow) ○ Adjustment of the screen top in several places ○ Belt tightening and adjustment ○ Alcohol disinfection inside the head (a slight alcohol scent remains, but will disappear with time) Please understand that the above work was performed based on my personal preference and subjective judgment. Please refrain from purchasing if you are looking for a new, perfect instrument or if you have any doubts. No returns or exchanges. The color and texture may differ slightly from the actual instrument depending on your PC or smartphone. Due to the high price, if you are in or near Tokyo, I would prefer that you actually see the instrument, play it, and be satisfied before purchasing. Please consult with me if you wish to inspect the instrument in person and try playing it. I also welcome those who would like to see the multiple instruments I have listed.
