Thank you for viewing! This item was made from a vintage Tai-ryo-bata (fisherman's flag), likely used at a fishing site. The fabric was dyed with persimmon tannin and iron mordant at home. The colorful and large patterns of the Tai-ryo-bata become a subdued, tasteful color through dyeing. The persimmon tannin dyeing process turns the colors into a brownish hue, and the iron mordant further adds a gray cast. A thin fabric interfacing is applied to the outer fabric. A medium-weight fabric interfacing is also applied to the brim, both on the front and back, but it is softer compared to commercially made products. An adjustable belt is attached at the back. The lining uses a slightly thick cotton-like fabric (material unknown). Size: Inner circumference 56-59.5cm Side crown approx. 17cm Brim (center) approx. 7.5cm Measurements are approximate and taken by a layman with a measuring tape.
