Other theories suggest that it is a color dyed by adding indigo to purple, or a reddish purple. Katazome (stencil dyeing) uses Gofun, a white pigment made from refined crushed seashells. It can be used alone or mixed with other colors. Unlike regular dyes, it does not soak into the fabric, resulting in a clear and distinct color.
