The Pocket Sax Xaphoon is a completely new instrument, born on the island of Maui, Hawaii. It's neither a saxophone nor a clarinet, and it's not a recorder either. It produces a tone similar to a clarinet, but with a sound like a saxophone. I purchased it in Japan about 20 years ago. I tried playing it, but I put it away in a storage shelf without practicing. Spare bamboo reeds for the mouthpiece are included, so please replace them as needed. (The main body has been disinfected with alcohol.) It feels like it's not too difficult to produce a sound. The body material is ABS resin, which is excellent in impact resistance and rigidity, and is also resistant to acids and alkalis. There is no degradation such as hydrolysis. The metal fittings that secure the reeds to the box show some deterioration, but the main body is in a clean condition.
